Quality & sustainability

Recyclable board, and a check at every stage

No vague claims. Here is exactly what board we run, what happens to the waste, and the four points at which a job gets inspected before it leaves the plant.

Quality control

Four checks, every job

A signed colour proof for every job, and a retained sample from every production run kept for twelve months against repeat orders.

01

Incoming board

GSM, caliper and shade checked against the approved sample before the lot is accepted. Board that misses spec goes back to the mill rather than onto the press.

02

Print

The first sheet is signed against the colour proof by Mr. Mohanraj personally. Density and register are then monitored through the run, so the last carton matches the first.

03

Die-cut

Cut and crease checked on a folded sample with the actual product inside where possible. Sheets are counted and waste stripped before they move to pasting.

04

Final pack

Glue bond and squareness checked, count verified against the order, and a retained sample filed for the run before the lot is bundled for dispatch.

On certification, plainly

Balaji Grapics is not ISO certified at present. What exists instead is the documented four-stage check above, a signed colour proof on every job, and a retained sample from every run.

Food-grade and FSC-certified board can be sourced on request. In that case the certificate travels with the material from the mill — it is the board that is certified, not us. We would rather say that than imply otherwise.

When something goes wrong

Rejections are logged by cause

Logged, not buried

Every rejection is recorded against its cause — board, plate, register, die or glue — so the same fault does not repeat on the next run.

Reworked at our cost

Where the fault is ours, the batch is reworked or reprinted at our cost. No argument about whose plate it was.

Shade held across seasons

Repeat orders are run against the retained sample, not from memory — so a carton reordered eight months later still matches the one on the shelf.

Sustainability

Materials, coatings and what happens to the waste

Recyclable paperboard is the default here, not an upgrade. Where a barrier is genuinely needed we reach for aqueous coating before plastic film.

Recyclable by default

FBB, duplex grey-back and white-back, and kraft are all recyclable and carry no plastic lamination unless a customer specifically asks for a gloss or matte film.

Aqueous instead of film

Where a barrier is needed, aqueous coating is offered in place of lamination so the carton stays repulpable — and it dries fast enough to die-cut the same day.

Waste baled and sold on

Trim waste, make-ready sheets and rejected cartons are baled by grade and sold to recyclers. Used blankets and cleaning cloth are collected separately.

Board grades we run

FBBFolding box board — the default for food, pharma and gift cartons. Recyclable.
SBSSolid bleached sulphate, for pharma and premium work needing a clean white face.
Duplex white-backPrinted both sides or where the inner face shows. Recyclable.
Duplex grey-backEconomical workhorse for textile, footwear and transit cartons.
KraftComponent and spare-part packing. Unbleached, recyclable, no coating needed.
Food-grade boardSourced on request, with the mill's certificate supplied against the batch.
FSC-certifiedAvailable on request; certificate travels with the material from the mill.

Inks, energy and housekeeping

  • Low-migration inks used on food-contact jobs when the customer specifies them, with documentation against the batch.
  • Ink bought in standard tins and drawn as needed, which cuts leftover that would otherwise be disposed of.
  • Solar on the roof alongside generator backup, so a power cut does not mean a wasted make-ready.
  • Aqueous coating in place of film wherever the customer does not need the film — fewer plastic-laminated cartons leaving the plant.
  • Cleaning cloth and used blankets segregated rather than going to general waste.
